This is an interesting autobiography of Clarence Darrow’s life and of his beliefs. Some of the information in this book is as follows: He said that he sympathized with almost efforts of people to get better working conditions and better wages. He said that nobody gets to choose their biological parents. He said that he personally never believed in the use of force. He hated to see others and himself suffer in pain. He hated capital punishment. He felt that it was cruel and barbaric. He said that he believed pacifism was good in time of peace but useless in a time of war. In 1928, he said that he was practicing law for 50 years. Clarence said that no spot in England is more than 65 miles from the sea. Children of 7 years old or 8 years old were once upon a time put to death which he felt was morally wrong. At one time England punished some 200 offenses by death. Almost everyone had mistaken a stranger for a friend. Everyone knows that our human lives on the Earth are for a very short time. Therefore, we should try to make our lives as comfortable and painless as much as possible while we’re alive.Product details

The Story of my Life Classic bestseller eBook Clarence Darrow Reviews
Clarence Darrow was always a pioneer in fighting for the rights of the "little people." His book also deals with his pesonal feelings and challenges in protecting his right to privacy while fighting public battles.
I am half way through the book and it is interesting regarding the politics of the day but dull. Expected the character to live up to his rep;. Maybe later.
Excellent sale
As a reader, he has to cast oneself back to Darrow's time and read through the lens of the writing style of that time but make no mistake, the ideas and story of his life is well worth the time. Some later chapters are ponderous going, others very interesting and entertaining.
Perhaps the greatest lawyer of all time. As I child I read an early bio on Darrow, and it changed my life. I became a trial lawyer, inspired by the great Darrow. I, too, fought for the little guy, my conscious formed by Darrow's sacrifice to represent the union against the Pullman Co. Beware. This wonderful man may change your life, too.
Although written in 1932 it is an up to date and powerful essay -under the way of a memoir- about how to be a lawyer, from the deepest point of view, using as a trail the life of the author. His cases, still leading in America, are less important in this book; what matters here is the soul of the lawyer, because Darrow tells his story but, at the same time, releases his truth about being a lawyer "my instinct was to doubt the majority view", he avoided "being handicapped by the desire for office [politics] and money", recognizes, "I never cared much for it...I have always been interested in the political situation..." but, "I concluded early in life that if one entered a political course he must leave his independence behind, an this I could never abide".
"I was attracted by the show of the legal profession..." and "developed a desire to be a lawyer", which consists of putting yourself in other person's place, "I could not avoid doing so". Darrow ever tried to improve his own skills, "I am well aware of my own defects in the use of language and have always tried, and still try, to correct my shortcomings". He lived a fascinating career of fifty years going to court -the Coal strike, the Loeb-Leopold trial, the Evolution case or "monkey trial", and many others recounted in this book- learning to stand alone "I have never been on the popular side of any issue".
Clarence Darrow is now my number one hero of all the men of history. Such a pure soul but never boring, he so loved his fellow man that he studied and lingered over their short comings and why they did the terrible things they did. He understood that no one is born bad, that some humans are damaged at birth and this should be considered before sentencing them to a horrible end. Many have been tormented all thru life and need guidance and will never be able to fit into society, but should be placed in an institution where professionals can ease their tortured souls. Clarence Darrow was a most intelligent and kind human being that you can imagine. He lived thru some of the worst decades of this country, however, he remained a very calm and level minded man. This book has everything you want to read about....family, three wars, sickness, nature, religion, politics, the solar system and I promise you will not want this book to end. If you are a closed minded person, you will miss the chance of a lifetime of enjoying the life of one of the greats. It will be a long dry spell for me finding another book on the level of this one!!
